There are business owners,
then there are business owners.
There are those with integrity,
then there are those with duplicity.
There are those with scruples,
then there are those without morals.
There are the helpful ones,
then there are the hostile ones.
There are the cheerleaders,
then there are the schadenfreudes.
There are boldly creative ones,
then there are the spineless copycats.
There are the (true) collaborators,
then there are the connivers.

24th May, Pentecost Sunday.
Our morning commute route, quotidian but not quotidian: misty golden rays of light lancing through amidst thousand leaves.
“For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?
But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.”
Romans 8: 24-27

First, solace and silence
amongst the cathedrals of books;
then, fussing over a horizontal cat with tiger stripes;
then, espying a monitor lizard the size of a crocodile;
then, colliding, literally, with a caterpillar suspended midair;
then, a Black-naped Oriole caught in beautiful flight…
the blissful fragrance of flowers
and their timeless beauty,
the troop of frolicking otters,
the empire of mushrooms,
the lone Asian Open Bill Stork foraging,
the perched Blue Spotted dove in silent contemplation…
This is the art of lingering.

《May The Light Of Your Soul Guide You》
。
May the light of your soul guide you.
May the light of your soul bless the work
You do with the secret love and warmth of your heart.
May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul.
May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those
Who work with you and to those who see and receive your work.
May your work never weary you.
May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement.
May you be present in what you do.
May you never become lost in the bland absences.
May the day never burden you.
May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams,
Possibilities and promises.
May evening find you gracious and fulfilled.
May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected.
May your soul calm, console and renew you.

Day 7 today…and it bears recounting here that, interestingly, by an unusual stroke of chance and fate, we have a triumvirate of all left-handers at the helm of our booth…
23/04/2026
Day One and loving the vibes here…constantly connecting with the folks ambling by…too, getting wow-ed by our IG followers and friends coming by…we are truly glad—and blessed—to be back…

Getting ready for the Takashimaya pop-up from tomorrow onwards for 2 weeks…we can’t wait!
18/04/2026
So it is we’ll be back at Takashimaya B2 Food Hall for a second pop-up from 23rd April (Thursday) till 6th May (Wednesday)…which is next week…

One of the indulgences at Takashimaya B2 of which resistance is futile…

A tale of two rainbows…and a poem.
《Don’t Hesitate》
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise, and not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that’s often the
case. Anyway, whatever it is, don’t be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

This is a Banana Pie from that we found here, and liked…the others we’d love to try but let us not rush…
And so begins our purposeful chronicling, now that we have had the mind space to, of that wide array of food at Takashimaya B2, tantalising that it is…and because we’ll be back here again in April for our second pop-up.

Reminiscing over that bowl of Pho beef slices I once had at Nam Nam during the pop-up at Takashimaya…while also craving for the restful space of solitude, if only for a short while…

《Fear》
It is said that before entering the sea
a river trembles with fear.
She looks back at the path she has traveled,
from the peaks of the mountains,
the long winding road crossing forests and villages.
And in front of her,
she sees an ocean so vast,
that to enter
there seems nothing more than to disappear forever.
But there is no other way.
The river can not go back.
Nobody can go back.
To go back is impossible in existence.
The river needs to take the risk
of entering the ocean
because only then will fear disappear,
because that’s where the river will know
it’s not about disappearing into the ocean,
but of becoming the ocean.

Pertaining to our debut pop-up at Takashimaya,
here’s this long overdue post to best express our gratitude that, while ever-constant on our minds, is well-nigh beyond words:
To all who, ever so kindly supportive, had visited us at Takashimaya over CNY, nothing could’ve been possible nor progressed without you all.
To the team at Takashimaya, nothing would’ve happened without your invitation and invaluable guidance…
To , and : things wouldn’t have worked out at all if it weren’t for your invaluable and kind help…
We can’t possibly thank you all enough but still,
Thank You thank you thank you!
Also, there’s a second pop-up in the cards, and as soon as things are firmed up, we’ll keep you all updated.

So it is, in the wink of an eye, our 11th day since we’ve set foot in the basement of Takashimaya and, already, we’re inundated with the intangible amount of lessons we’ve learned for which we’re truly the richer and the wiser and we are immensely grateful.
27/02/2026
Here’s a little amendment to the dates of our pop-up at Takashimaya: the last day is on 3rd March, Tuesday, instead of 4th March such as was initially stated and we are apologetic. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Meanwhile, over at the welcoming city-oasis of .coffee, you may also find a platter of our kuehs in three basic flavours amongst an interesting culinary medley of cuisines—Soon Kueh Trio…Salted Squid Pasta…Corn Riblets…Lamb Spud…Citrus Beetroot Burrata…

So here we are on our fifth day down the rabbit hole…a veritably surreal blend of the favours of chance, curiosity, camaraderie, déjà vu, misadventures and lessons lessons lessons…a world such as we’ve never experienced, so far as our One Kueh journey goes…a great quantum-leaping learning curve if ever there was one.

Here’s to wishing everyone Peace, Love, Joy, Vitality & Success in all aspects of your life! Happy Lunar New Year🧧🍊🍊🧨🧨🧨

The endless rigmaroles of administration. The hunt for equipments on lease that fit the mall’s requirements to the letter…the plannings, the coordinations. The unwavering marathon of production between just the two of us. The frustrating scramble for part-timers. The ebbs and the flows of emotions preceding the event. All…in earnest preparation to start dishing out our kuehs tomorrow morning, 1030am, at Takashimaya. How things will unfurl henceforth, we try not to imagine—we’ll be the wiser to just be focusing on the present, getting the next best thing done in all excellence. And then trust.
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don‘t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”
Matthew 6:34

So it is that we’ve just received the good news of a one-day extension (of the pop-up) at Takashimaya and we’re only glad.

The chiaroscuros of (near-)daily life…and a timely reminder—the words cast on the wall—to take things one kueh at a time, overwhelming such as it is at this juncture as we gear up for the pop-up at Takashimaya.

What people say
One kueh at a time is a cafeteria that prides itself on being purists. They serve only batch-brew coffee and a selection of teas, with no chilli or sauces in sight. This dedication to simplicity and tradition extends to their artisanal Soon Kuehs, which are made with care and attention to detail.
Although One kueh at a time is currently closed for renovations, their social media posts suggest that they are taking this opportunity to create an even better model for serving their customers. Their commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of their business, from the quality of their food to the kindness of the landlord's maintenance team who helped them with heavy equipment during the move.
As Rick Rubin said in his book The Creative Act: A Way Of Being, every artist creates a dynamic history through their work. One kueh at a time embodies this philosophy by creating delicious treats that are both timeless and innovative. We look forward to seeing what they have in store for us when they reopen in their new location.
