FAQ Corner: What age should I sterilize my dog or cat? 🐾
The general rule: 6 months is the minimum age for both dogs and cats. This isn't just a random number — for male pets especially, we wait until the testicles have fully developed and descended, which allows for a safer and more straightforward procedure.
That said, the exact right timing can still vary depending on your pet's breed, size, and overall health. That's why we don't do one-size-fits-all answers here. Dr Vanessa will assess your pet individually and walk you through the best timing during your consultation.

Ever noticed your dog’s paws smell a little like corn chips?
You’re not imagining it! 🐾 That familiar scent can come from bacteria naturally present on their paws, especially between the toes. A mild smell on otherwise healthy paws isn’t necessarily a cause for concern.
Beyond the smell, those pads are doing a lot of work: cushioning every step, absorbing shock and helping with grip. Give them a gentle check regularly for cracks, cuts or anything stuck between the toes—those little paws work hard!
🔎 Notice a stronger or changing smell, redness, swelling, persistent licking or limping? Don’t brush it off as just “corn-chip paws”—have your vet take a look. Keep paws clean and dry, especially between the toes.

Some of the cutest, most "them" behaviors can actually be your pet quietly telling you something's off.
Pets are naturally good at hiding pain — it's an instinct, not a choice. A squinting cat curled up in the sun could just be a nap. A dog suddenly less interested in walks could just be a mood. Or both could be a small sign worth paying attention to.

In an emergency, the last thing you want is to waste time figuring out what to bring. Save this checklist now, before you need it. 🐾
A few things worth knowing:
1. Medical records help us understand your pet's history fast, digital copies on your phone work just as well as printed ones
2. If your pet ate something it shouldn't have, bring the packaging if it's safe to grab, but never induce vomiting unless a vet tells you to
3. A quick video of an unusual symptom (seizures, limping, breathing issues) can help, especially if it's stopped by the time you arrive
Most importantly: if it's a real emergency, don't delay coming in just because you don't have everything on this list. Bring what you can, and we'll take it from there.
