Armenian Street Char Kway Teow - Singapore is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in traditional and mouth-watering Char Kway Teow. This coffee shop has been patronized by MediaCorp artistes, overseas artistes, and regular patrons since its founding at Armenian Street. The story of the founder, Mr. Tan Chong Chia, who started off alone selling his delicious Char Kway Teow through a push-cart stall in 1949, is truly inspiring. His wife joined him later to support their four sons and together they strived hard to give the best Char Kway Teow to their patrons.
The unique skills of frying delicious Char Kway Teow were passed down to Mr. Tan's eldest son, Mr. Tan Soo Kiat, who began helping his father in 1971. He was only allowed to helm the wok when his father ran errands until the senior finally retired in 2000. All that training has paid off as Mr. Tan Soo Kiat now serves up some of the best Char Kway Teow in Singapore.
Although it was a pity that the building at Armenian St was due for redevelopment in 2007, forcing Mr. Tan and his famous Armenian St Char Kway Teow to move out, they have found a new home at Sengkang where they continue to serve up their signature dish.
