Sometimes when I think about how I started and how it's going, I feel like I've aged ten thousand years in this F&B journey of the last ten years. Yet, the 70-80hour work days I keep 7 days a week every day without rest for the last ten years are without doubt something that ironically keep me going and keep me alive.

There are some of us who simply cannot live without working. We were just wired this way, hateful of slovenliness and allergic to blubbering sedentary masses. And it shows, in the obsession with which we do things and how we're always 'hustling' juggling thousands of things at the same time, to make a dollar or two somewhere, just to survive and just to stay alive.. in more ways than one. I'm not glorifying the hustle culture, the long days and nights of back-breaking sai kang work. In an ideal world (not found in my universe, unfortunately), none of us would have to work and money just drops from the sky.. or given to us by pliant husbands. But what about the here and now, or what about those of us who don't have the luxury of a husband or parent supporting us in our daily basic needs? This is why some of us are obsessed with cooking the best for strangers, and never for 'friends and family'... because we don't care for the opinions of sheep.

This has been more than a journey, this has been a testimony to the kind of resilience, tenacity and obsession with Chinese food that endures the test of time. And this is why food is beyond brilliant. It's exquisite. Made by only the best and honed by the best in Singapore, Germany and possibly even China.

Of course, we don't seek to compete but we complement the ecosystem by offering very viable alternatives that cannot be found elsewhere in Singapore (indeed, the world). Many would remember us from our first bazaar at Serangoon Road that first publicly launched our signature Har Cheong G*i which also was coincidentally the first ever Har Cheong G*i to be sold at an outdoor bazaar in the world πŸ₯° 2015 was a big year, and also a year of resistance against the flagrant abuse and intentional affliction of cruel and unusual torture upon our founder by the powers that be... and WE SHOWED THEM ✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻 And now in 2026, yup, bigger and better... Done this a few times before in my life-- upped and left Singapore in pursuit of something better-- that it has become second nature to me. I can no longer count the number of CNYs and Hari Rayas I have spent on the road in foreign lands, fleetingly or for years, intentionally.

This time, I went back to my original calling i.e. academia (yet again) because I can't seem to stay away from my first love (Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating because my first love is aviation.. or is it caviar.. hmm) for too long. Being in the food industry for a whopping MORE THAN TEN YEARS is a feat for someone like me, although the last 3.5years have been intertwined with also being back in the corporate world for 14-16 hours a day overseeing 6 international offices, whilst juggling the vicissitudes of F&B before going to the office, after I'm back from the office after midnight, weekends, public holidays and essentially working 7 days a week.

I thought my brain had atrophied by stagnation, but the A's in my grades as a geriatric entity in the midst of 21yr old kids at is comforting. But then again, 21yr olds are not competition to me. They became my friends though! πŸ™ƒ Although initially I was skeptical I could withstand noisy, silly, partying frat kids, I was glad that I made tons of unlikely friends because I blended in and we all bonded over struggling through the bitter cold mornings on the S-bahn, trudging sleepily through the snow for our 9am classes and the gruelling (physically and emotionally) field visits after class that lasted hours that left my ageing body wrecked by the time I got back to the studentdorf. As expected, I failed to study for the exams due to too much fraternising and amidst ruined communal plans for Poland skiing (I'll come back for you next time!!) but miraculously by the grace of God managed to submit a decent enough final exam paper to get an A grade 🀣 A repeat of all my other years of university exams on various continents! The University Gods have really been kind to me in this life, lol πŸ˜„ All praise to God πŸ€²πŸ™

Appreciation post: For the better part of 10 years (and even before), we at have always been involved in organising ground-up charity/community initiatives, trickling down from the 1990s when we first started being active in community and volunteer work/activism.

Now that we have a bigger platform and thousands following us on this social media account, we are grateful and thankful for the people who have joined us in making a small difference in the lives of our brethren.
