As Ramadan service comes to a close, this is our biggest reflection.

We can’t control everything around us, but we can control how we show up.

Through uncertainty and limitations, we choose to keep going, to keep improving, and to do the best we can with what we have, even when it feels like one step forward and ten steps back.

To our team, and to every guest who continues to choose us, thank you for your patience, your understanding, and your support. You are as much a part of this as we are, and we do not take that for granted.

We may not have captured everyone in this moment, but this image holds the spirit of the many who make it all possible.

We are grateful to serve, on the good days and the difficult ones.

Selamat Hari Raya. 🌙

⁣Some of you may have heard that Afterwit is closing tomorrow. Before we say goodbye, here’s something we never really shared.⠀

Afterwit means realising the clever thing you should have said or done only after the moment has passed (We’ve all had an Afterwit). At Black Hole Group we’ve always liked things to be a little poetic.⠀

When we first opened in 2015, Afterwit was a small brunch spot serving avocado toast and eggs benedict. But hidden in that menu was a breakfast burrito that quickly became our best-selling dish.⠀

So we listened, pivoted, and became the Mexican taqueria many of you know today. That was our Afterwit.⠀

That’s the nature of business. You evolve, adapt, and keep moving forward.⠀

And now, as the world changes again, it feels like the right time for another evolution.⠀

Because sometimes, Afterwit is realising the clever thing you should have done… only after the moment has passed.⠀

Will Afterwit return one day? Perhaps.

⁣We met Ariff during our early days on Arab Street, when Kampong Gelam felt like the right place to start something meaningful. It was a time when the millennial spirit was simple. Anything felt possible.⠀

In 2013, Working Title was our playground. Experimentation fuelled us. Late-night talks kept ideas alive. Street-side conversations with the Kampong Gelam community pushed them further. That is where connections like ours with Ariff began.⠀

The Belado Bird Burger, created in collaboration with Ariff from Rumah Makan Minang, is more than a burger. It carries heritage, shared beginnings, and the belief that small businesses grow stronger side by side.⠀

If you’d like to try the Belado Bird, join us at Working Title at LaSalle.

Ramadan Kareem. Stay dry out there.

In an ever-changing and challenging economic landscape, it’s more important than ever to keep your neighbours close and honour the relationships that helped shape where you are today. With so many closures across Singapore in the last six months, now feels like a crucial moment to support the heritage brands that keep our city vibrant, diverse and alive.⠀

While The Black Hole Group may not fall under the traditional “heritage” category, we are proudly Singapore-owned and deeply inspired by our long-time neighbours in Kampong Gelam. They are the heartbeat of the district, drawing not just tourists but locals who return again and again for its character, community and soul.⠀

There’s nothing quite like wandering through Kampong Gelam on a Friday afternoon, running into familiar faces, catching up with old friends, and reconnecting with fellow business owners. These small, human moments are what keep nostalgia alive, bring warmth to everyday life, and make our neighbourhood truly special.⠀

This Ramadan, we are deeply honoured to partner with Rumah Makan Minang alongside Tipo and Working Title. Together, we celebrate community, culture, and the shared spirit that binds us across past, present and future.

THE BIRTH OF BLACK HOLE GROUP AT 48 ARAB STREET

What started as an escape from the corporate world became a mission to survive in the F&B industry.

Over 10 years, outlets opened, moved, and closed; menus changed; chairs, tables, and blenders broke; cutlery disappeared. We re-painted and repaired coffee machines, chillers, fryers, ovens, stoves, dishwashers, ice machines, grills, ventilation hoods, glasses, and sinks, only to watch them break again.

The number of juicers and blenders we’ve retired could fund another business. But that’s the game: fixing, growing, improving, even when it feels like you’re moving backwards.

Whatever your dreams are, go for them, but know it’s the unseen, unexpected parts of the journey that will surprise you most.
