What's in a Mee Pok?

Wikipedia: "Mee pok is a Chinese noodle characterized by its flat and yellow appearance, varying in thickness and width. The dish is of Chaoshan origin and is commonly served in the Chaoshan region of China and countries with a significant Chaoshan Chinese immigrant population such as Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand."

To date, this simple Teochew noodle dish has strong roots in the Chaoshan region of China, but through time, it has since established itself as one of the staple dishes in Singapore with its blend of sambal chilli and choice ingredients.

🌶️🔥 **Discover the Flavours of Singapore: Sambal Chili! 🔥🌶️

Sambal is a spicy relish which serves as both a core ingredient and side dish of Chinese, Malay, Peranakan, Eurasian cuisines in Singapore, and neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.

Typically consisting of fresh chillies, shrimp paste, lime juice, sugar, and salt; sambal - in its various flavours and forms - has both a rich history and an extensive presence in the preparation of a myriad of familiar local dishes.

Traditionally, sambal is used as an all-purpose condiment to add heat and flavour to marinades, dips, sauces, and spreads, and to accompany dishes such as nasi lemak, char kway teow, and laksa. And of course, our Teochew famous fishball kuay teow mee:)
