On 29th of January 2021, we released our first statement in response to the discovery of traces of Porcine DNA in 2 of our products Li Chuan Fish Ball and Li Chuan Cuttlefish Ball by Brunei Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Lab reports from an accredited 3rd party laboratory has confirmed that there is no presence of Porcine DNA in both the affected products.

At the same time, MUIS has also informed us that no presence of Porcine DNA has been detected in their DNA test conducted for the affected products and audits carried out in our premises does not find any lapses to the Halal Certification requirements.

Going forward, our company will review our supply chain for exports and work with the relevant authorities and our local distributors to ensure products exported comply with local requirements.

Li Chuan has always hold utmost respect to all our Muslim compatriots for their religious practices and we would like to take this opportunity to assure the Muslim community that we have a stringent set of procedures to ensure that all our ingredients are sourced from prestigious Halal certified vendors. These procedures are reviewed from time to time to ensure that we are updated with MUIS’ requirements.

Dear Valuable Consumers:

We have received news that Li Chuan‘s cuttlefish ball & fish ball were found with porcine DNA in Brunei.

According to a letter issued by Brunei Halal authority to our official distributors in Brunei, the product, Cuttlefish Ball was repacked by a local retailer who is not our official distributor.

MUIS is currently investigating the matter and we are working very closely with them.

Having been in business for more than 20 years as a Halal Certified Company, we have accumulated a large group of Muslim supporters. We hold utmost respect to all our Muslim compatriots for their religious practices and treat this as an extremely serious issue.

To provide assurance to the Muslim community, we will retrieve all Fish Ball and Cuttlefish Ball in the affected market and stop distribution for these 2 products until the investigation has completed.

Con-currently, Li Chuan Singapore has also arranged Porcine DNA testing for the retained samples of the affected batch of products with an accredited 3rd party laboratory. (Results will only be available around 7 working days)

We would also like to take this opportunity to highlight that traditionally, fish balls are preferred to be bouncy and with a tinge of fishy smell. To manufacture fish balls with any porcine ingredients will make the fish ball to be less ideal in terms of quality and savory. Additionally, it will also increase the material cost of production.

Thus, we as a manufacturer will not intentionally add any porcine ingredients to our products as it will serve no benefit to our Company in any way.
